One of the most important things we can do when it comes to climate change is talk about it.
While conversation is a step in the right direction, how we talk about climate and whose voices we uplift also matter. Too often the voices of those on the frontlines of the crisis—including Indigenous communities, and marginalised communities are overlooked or ignored. How can we use stories to “pass the mic” to those who frequently go unheard—and, in the process, bring effective solutions to life?
What is the problem with the climate stories we currently tell? Why do stories matter in climate solutions? How can stories help build power, shape culture, and change behavior? Why are Indigeneous voices critical to the dialogue? How can you and your communities leverage stories to address climate change? Lets hear the same.
The signs are glaringly clear. The temperatures in our oceans are at alarming levels, June was the hottest month we’ve ever experienced, and in this week alone, we’ve set three new records for global temperatures!
Yet, most still deny what needs to be done. Unless we act on climate change, undergo the detoxification treatment, and stop digging and burning fossil fuels, we are literally on the brink.
Most will face death and chaos around us within our lifetime. I urge you to read this sentence again.Living in denial isn’t an option anymore. Everyone must contribute to ensure our civilization undergoes the equivalent of chemotherapy and rapidly transitions to a fossil-free society.
There is an incredible amount to be done, but the most crucial action we can take right now is to acknowledge the elephant in the room and hold our political leaders accountable.
We must build a popular opinion and use all of our influence, especially that of corporations, to persuade our political leaders to stop sponsoring the fossil-fuel industry. According to the IMF, $11 million per minute is spent globally on fossil subsidies!
If we remove these, the conditions for a fossil society collapse, and we can witness a cork popping effect! While it’s not everything required, it would be a significant step.
If you’re a leader, you can make a significant difference: ‘We Don’t Have Time”.
The facts this week: ◦ Monday: Average global temperature hits 17.01°C (62.62°F), highest in 125,000 years ◦ Tuesday: Record climbs to 17.18°C, beats Monday’s ◦ Thursday: Record climbs to 17.23°C, beats Tuesday’s ◦ 3 hottest days in 125,000 years in 4 days And it’s only Friday.. |
So WHAT is the SOLUTION ?
As many of you know I think that DEGROWTH is simply impossible in our current system that is completely based on GDP GROWTH ! And the system change needed to design a DEGROWTH ECONOMY is way beyond what our political system can enable! Or imagine?
Beyond Politics Poverty and war the best that money can’t buy“ is that a resource based economy is as difficult as a Degrowth Economy!
A degrowth economy requires a shift from the current growth-focused economic model to a steady-state economy. How? Where?
Could a New World Order help?
Societies need to redefine the notion of progress and well-being beyond traditional measures like GDP. Alternative indicators that prioritize human well-being, such as the Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI) or the Human Development Index (HDI),
Gross National Happiness (GNH) can be adopted to assess the overall welfare of a society.
A degrowth economy necessitates a shift in societal values, norms, and lifestyles. This involves questioning the dominant consumer culture and promoting values such as sufficiency, cooperation, and solidarity.
A Sharing Economy to start with?
A degrowth economy requires a fundamental reevaluation of resource use and management. This involves prioritizing renewable energy sources, reducing waste and pollution, promoting circular economy practices, and enhancing resource efficiency. Eliminate the very concept of waste? As cradle to cradle taught us?
Addressing inequalities and redistributing wealth and resources is crucial for a degrowth economy. Can you see that happen? How? Where? When?
The top 10% will not give up the status quo
The top 0,1% who rule the world even less.
Rather than relying solely on the government to solve all problems, a degrowth economy emphasizes participatory decision-making and decentralized governance. CommunityUp works but BottomUp doesn’t
Still we see so many useless bottom up actions .
There is not yet enough critical thinking about the polycrisis at least not from the Top Down bottom up much more but nowhere near a critical mass! Education was great at eliminating the critical thinking skills!
For me BEYOND GDP is much more realistic than beyond growth .
